I have designed this 10 Week Professional Course to suit all levels of experience. It doesn’t matter if you are a complete beginner who wants to finally go after the dream of being a makeup artist (like I did) or if you are a working makeup artist or have done a course already but you still lack confidence.
Every technique is built on bit by bit each week. This builds your confidence and ensures that nothing is rushed. I want all my students to understand every technique so fully that by the end of the course you will know how to break down any look into steps. This is what will give you the confidence in any situation going forward.
VTCT is an international qualification and I chose to accredit my course with VTCT because it is so practical. You will be continually assessed in person as well as in a final exam but you will also have to complete a portfolio of your work which will also include the theory that you will need to know as a working makeup artist. You will have written work to complete which will cover health and safety, hygiene, skin types and conditions, contra-indications, contra-actions , client care and how to be professional at all times. This written work is usually completed by week 2 of the course so the remainder is spent working on your portfolio of evidence of your work so by Week 10 you have everything completed and ready to submit to VTCT.
The looks you will need for your portfolio fall under Bridal, Period and Fantasy. I tend to base these around the current trends in makeup so all the softer looks that are on trend would fall under “Bridal”, the classic looks that never go out of style like winged liner and a red lip for example which is classic 1950’s makeup would fall under “Period” and then all the colourful looks and styles that are on trend fall under “Fantasy” then. You will need to bring a model with you to practice on each week from Week 2.
That’s why I chose this qualification with VTCT as I get to show you everything I get asked for on a regular basis which is why I find it so practical. This course shows you what I do everyday and how I do it in a safe and professional manner. Now more than every safety is paramount for you and for your clients.
I teach all courses myself and places are limited to ensure the best standard of training. I don’t expect perfection to begin with at all so there’s no need to worry. What I do expect from every student however is repeated effort. Without this the course is a waste of your time and mine.
This is why I interview all applicants. Unless you are willing to go through that horrible phase of getting it wrong (because I’m sorry it will be wrong for a long time before it will be right!) then you won’t improve. Anytime we learn something new we have to go through that phase but if you do it over and over and over and over again you will finally get there. Yes it can be frustrating but unless you put in the effort of practicing, it doesn’t matter how much you pay for a course or what you’re taught or who is teaching you. The magic only happens when you put in the time and effort into your practicing.
I’ve leaned that from my own experience learning anything new and from teaching for so many years now. Everyone learns in different ways so you must give yourself the time to make all the mistakes because it’s from that experience that you truly learn and remember and this is what makes you confident because you can see your progress each week.
I ask that all students practice the new technique I have shown them at least 3 times in between their next class and take pictures to show me so I can give feedback. All students will be given access to online videos to use for their practice in between each class to make sure they are doing all the techniques correctly. Each group also has their own Whatapp group with me for updates, feedback and support.
A full kit of my most favourite high end and drugstore brands and brush set again made up of my favourite brands is included in the price as I want everyone to be ‘singing from the same hymn sheet’ so to speak. This will be your kit for your future career and you will have this to do all your practice at home in between classes. All I ask is for you to get your own hygiene products which I give all successful applicants a list fo before the course starts.
As I have worked in the Hair and Beauty industry for 15 years both in the managing of salons and cosmetic retail I am happy to give all the professional guidance I can. Your skill is only one part of being a successful makeup artist – you need to set yourself apart as having the highest standards not only in your craft but in your professionalism, your hygiene and health and safety, your customer service and your ability to listen to your clients and to give them all they ever wanted and more.
If you feel like this is the course for you and are willing to work your socks off for 12 weeks then get in touch. All applicants are interviewed to ensure the course is the right fit for you. Pop me an email to info@jeanettecronin.com and we can arrange a time to chat.
