Module 4 – Winged Liner & Red Lip

Welcome back. I hope your’ve been practicing loads so your confidence is growing everyday.

In this section we go through the dreaded winged liner that puts the fear of God into most people but I’m telling you now that there is no need to worry as my liner technique works on every single eye shape. That’s right. Every eye shape. As you can probably tell from practicing the previous looks, all of the techniques I show you are for all eye shapes so there isn’t any change here I promise. 

At the start of the video before going into the makeup I quickly cover how I clean my brushes and how I keep everything sanitized. You will see me mention when something is my own I use it on straight from the pot or straight onto the skin from the wand. This is fine if it is for personal use. I depot a lot of my wet products onto my palette as I need everything I use for my clients to be as if they were new so I can’t double dip my brush that I’ve used on my skin back into the product. For pressed dry products I spray them with disinfectant spray which I will show you in the video.

Again, if you only use your products on yourself then you won’t necessarily need it but I still think it’s nice to make sure that what your using (even if it is only for personal use) is clean and disinfected. You can use that same disinfectant spray in your pencils aswell. I always sharpen them first, then spray them with the disinfectant spray and then give them a wipe with a tissue. 

If you keep your brushes and products clean it will not only keep them in pristine condition – it will benefit your makeup application and your skin! Imagine using a dirty brush on your skin day in and day out. You wouldn’t wash your face with a dirty cloth so why would you use a dirty brush on your face? Plus, if you’ve paid €50 for a foundation why would you use a brush that’s dirty to apply it? It won’t sit as nicely on your skin at all.  

As a makeup artist, obviously my brushes need to be fully cleaned and sanitized before every client as if they were new. I still like to clean to use clean brushes on myself as that’s what I’m used to. For personal use you can get away with leaving your powder brushes to maybe once a week if you use the same colour or powder on each brush everyday but if you want to use different colours then you’ll have the shadow left over from the colour you used the last time left on the brush so you may get a lighter or darker effect that what you intended if you don’t clean your brushes. I would recommend cleaning your wet brushes after every use however. You don’t need to wash them under the tap at all.

I use Cinema Secrets brush cleaner and it’s honestly the best brush cleaner I’ve ever tried. It kills 99.99% of bacteria, it dries instantly and smells lovely. It also protects your brushes as it’s not harsh at all. I’ve been using it for years and I can’t see myself changing. I get mine from www.makeupshop.ie.

I will ask you to follow the same structure we had for Module 1-3. I ask that you watch the tutorial, practice, watch it again and and while you’re watching it answer the questions I provide before practicing again. 

Liner takes time to master because you have to get used to the pressure to use and getting the right amount of product on the brush as you need it to flow but not be too wet either. If you just take your time and go step by step you will get there. I promise.
